Firefox ShowCase

I have got some friends of mine who have hacked and upgraded the Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) to IE7 because of its fancy look. Personally, I don’t like to use anymore of IE because of one of my good friends George disliked it that time when he was in Uganda and then I have also come to realise that it is not so effective in maintaining web standards. Most of the time when I put a website live, I always get problems getting it to work in IE and I end up changing a few things which kinda makes the website look different from the website mockup I had initially planned.

Firefox ShowcaseAnyway, one of things I had liked about IE7 was it’s ability to have thumbnails of the tabs which we opened. So if any of you was missing that in my favorite web browser - Mozilla Firefox, then you got no reason, Firefox Showcase is at your rescue.

From the Firefox Addons,

Showcase provides a new way to manage your Firefox tabs and windows by showing them as thumbnails in a single window, tab or sidebar. Includes a find bar that will filter the thumbnails, and the capability to select the thumbnails in the same way you would select files in your system.

Firefox Showcase offers even more than what is in IE7 and below are some:
You can have the thumbnails in the sidebar, window or tab. You can also configure the Showcase Options to permanently visible in the sidebar. With the Showcase in the sidebar permanently, the thumbnails can Go Forward, Go Back, Refresh and Stop Loading of a page in the thumbnail without opening the tab itself.

When a laptop lid is closed…

Last week, a friend of mine asked me that whenever he closes his laptop lid, his computer automatically goes to “Stand By” mode yet he wanted it to remain download his anti-virus updates.

Power OptionsI know this might be very simple to figure out for computer geeks BUT I have just decided to help out those who might be going through the same problem.
So just follow the steps below and it should be ok.

  1. Open the Control Panel. For Windows XP, Go to Start -> Control Panel and then Switch to Classic View.
  2. Select Power Options when in Classic View.
  3. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, select the Advanced Tab.
  4. Select Do nothing in the ‘When I close the lid of my portable computer’ drop down menu.

Managing Your Downloads

Free Download ManagerI have seen a lot of people complaining when they are downloading big files from the internet especially when their internet connection is very slow and to the extremes, it goes off and on. Sometimes, some people even can download a big part of the file and then their connection goes off or they have got to leave office so they can’t continue the download therefore loosing everything.

Well, you really don’t have to worry any more about loosing the download and starting from stratch the next time you get the internet connection when you consider an application called a Download Manager. There are several download managers available BUT I can recommend one of the free ones and one which is small and I can be easily accessed online called “Free Download Manager”.
