Internet Connection Sharing
Have you ever wanted to share your internet connection to other computers on your LAN (network)? Let it be just a dial up connection, WiFi or broadband, you can share that internet connection with other computers on your LAN.Today, I will just look at a pretty easy way of doing it using a computer with Ms Windows XP or Ms Windows 2000 THO it is not advisable for network administrators since it can really be insecure and lots of other disadvantages which might rise up to use such a machine as your internet gateway BUT anyways, sometimes people are in a fix and they just need a small solution to share their internet on the LAN.
Alright!! Enough of that, lets get started and get it working. Just follow the steps below:
- Make sure that your internet connection is connected and is working properly.
- For Windows XP, right-click on your My Network Places icon on your desktop and then select Properties.
- Right click on the internet connection which is connected and then click Properties.
- Click on the Advanced Tab on that internet connection properties.
- Select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection.
- You can also enable the next option to allow network users control or disenable the connection.
Now in the other network computers which are supposed to use the internet connection, you just have to configure its network card with the specific IP address, Subnet and Default Gateway as the IP address of the computer you enabled internet sharing. The DNS servers remain the same as the ones where internet sharing as been enabled. And thats it.
